Former Vice President of Monaco Vadim Vasilyev revealed a conversation with Kylian Mbappé in 2017 when the forward doubted between continuing his career at Real Madrid or at PSG. With only 18 years, Mbappé understood at that time that it was too early to set course for the Bernabéu. "He said: 'Vadim, deep down, I feel it's too soon. I've only played for a year in my country, I'm Parisian and I don't want to leave my country like that. I want to become a great footballer. Madrid will have to wait," Vasilyev recounted on the TV program TF1 Telefoot .

Vasilyev, until last year the strong man of the Monegasque club appointed by its Russian owner, considered the decision of the young attacker was good. "He was right. I congratulated him. I said: 'They will knock on your door again and the whole Bernabeu will applaud you when you arrive without needing to prove anything," he said.

Vasilyev ended up signing the transfer of Mbappé to the PSG for about 180 million euros , the second most expensive of all time, only surpassed by the 222 million that the Parisian club paid to Barcelona for Neymar that same summer.

The former vice president of Monaco continues to maintain a good relationship with the PSG star and said he had a meeting with him this week. "He is still the same person, Kylian himself. He has grown, gained power and notoriety. If he doesn't play, he feels uncomfortable and even sick," he said.
