Starting number 143 will never be used again in the Tour of Poland, the organization announced on Friday. The decision was taken as a tribute to the Belgian rider Bjorg Lambrecht, who died during the race last summer and bore that number.

In August, during the third stage of the Tour of Poland, 22-year-old Lambrecht came into contact with a concrete pipe during a fall. He was resuscitated on the spot and then taken to the hospital, but the doctors could no longer save his life.

"We think about Bjorg every day, but please burn an extra candle for him now that it is All Saints' Day. We will do that too," writes the Tour of Poland organization.

"We can confirm that starting number 143 will never be worn again in our course. That number is for Bjorg. We will always remember you."

Lambrecht, who according to Polish media fell because of a road surface reflector, was considered a great talent. The Lotto Soudal rider this year finished sixth in the Amstel Gold Race and fourth in the Waalse Pijl.
