Marathon / Racewalk Sapporo Holding Plan Discussed today with IOC Coordinating Committee October 30 6:23

A plan to relocate the marathon and racewalk to Sapporo as a countermeasure for the heat of the Tokyo Olympics will be discussed at the Coordinating Committee of the IOC = International Olympic Committee starting on the 30th. While IOC's implementation in Sapporo is a decision, Governor Koike in Tokyo insists on implementation in Tokyo, and it will be noticed how it will be settled.

The IOC raced with the marathon to avoid the same situation at the Tokyo Olympics in response to a situation where many athletes such as marathons could not complete the race at the world championship in Doha, Qatar, where the heat was severe. A proposal to move the venue to Sapporo, where the temperature is lower than Tokyo, was proposed this month and will be discussed at the Coordinating Committee in Tokyo for 30 to 3 days.

Regarding this proposal, the IOC Coordinating Coordinator chairman has shown a strong stance that it is a decision for the IOC, while Governor Koike insists on implementation in Tokyo and the two sides are in conflict. .

Secretary General Muto, the Organizing Committee of the Games, told the 29 Diary Group, “I would like to exchange opinions on how to proceed with discussions and make a convincing discussion.”

When the Organizing Committee conducts in Sapporo, the marathon course is a part of the plan that starts and ends at the Sapporo Dome proposed by the IOC, and the period during which the dome can be borrowed is limited. The existing Hokkaido Marathon plan that starts and ends at the park is identified as the most prominent issue.

It will be noticed how the unusual proposal of changing the venue made by the IOC will be settled in less than 9 months until the start of the tournament.
