Defending champions Manchester City advanced to the quarter-finals of the English League Cup with a 3-1 home win over Southampton on Tuesday.

Everton also qualified for the quarter-finals with a 2-0 home win over Watford, while Leicester booked their place in the same round with a 3-1 win at Burton Albion.

At the Etihad Stadium, City won an Argentine flavor over Southampton, with three goals from Argentina.

Defender Nicolas Otamendi put City ahead in the 20th minute and striker Sergio Aguero added the second and third in the 38th and 56th minutes.

Jack Stevens replied for Southampton in the 75th minute.

At the Pirelli Stadium, Leicester City beat Albion 3-0 with Kelichi Iyanacho, Yuri Telemance and James Madison in the 7th, 20th and 89th minutes.

At Goodison Park, Everton beat Watford 2-0 in the 72nd minute and defender Mason Holgate scored in injury time.
