Ovechkin record without victory

The main match of the day in the NHL was the meeting between the Edmonton Oilers and the Washington Capitals. The metropolitan team scored an excellent move, won four victories in a row and had the right to count on the fifth, as the Canadians have accumulated a lot of problems lately. Their goalless series lasted almost two and a half hours, and the fans had questions for Connor McDavid and Leon Dreisaitl who no longer justified their star status. The match’s acuteness was added by the fact that the best scorer of the current season came to visit “Edmonton”, and it was not Alexander Ovechkin, but defender John Carlson - the league had not known such a paradox for a long time.

In the first period, the Oilers still printed someone else's goal, but not without the help of an opponent. After an unsuspecting threat of a throw by Darnell Nursa, the puck fell into the stick of Dmitry Orlov and ricocheted into the net.

After the break, “Washington” recouped thanks to a goal from Yakub Vrana from a U-turn, and then Ovechkin entered the game. After 47 seconds, the Russian striker knocked over a patch and just struck a rally on the puck. This goal was for the captain of “Washington” 666th in his career.

But the "number of the beast" was not present in his statistics for long. Soon, the owners were in the minority and left Ovechkin alone in the left circle of the face-off. Forward realized the majority for the jubilee 250th time, scoring half of such goals in away matches. This is now the new absolute NHL record that used to belong to Brett Hall. At the same time, Ovechkin extended his productive series to nine matches.

Towards the end of the second period, “Washington” was 3-1, but pressed against the wall, “Edmonton” managed to turn the tide. Dreisaytl and McDavid scored on the puck and transferred the match to overtime, and there the two scored a winning goal in the second minute immediately after Niklas Bekström failed to complete the scoring organized for him by Ovechkin. Two goals of the Russian and his nine shots did not bring “Washington” the fifth victory in a row.

Double of a young Russian

Dallas Stars has become one of the biggest disappointments of the season. In the first nine matches, the Texans won only one victory. And although they managed to win two more matches by the arrival of Anaheim Ducks, the situation remained so difficult that the coaching staff began to attract players from the farm club. One of those from whom they expected salvation was the 22-year-old striker Denis Guryanov. And the bet on the young native of Togliatti really played.

Already in the third minute of the match in his first shift Guryanov distinguished himself with an excellent wrist throw, after which the puck had to be taken out of the net. Thanks for the chance, the Russian should have been teammate for the fourth link, Andrew Kolyano, who had previously obtained the puck by force.

Shortly before the end of the period, Guryanov tried again to execute the same throw. The puck offensively off the hook, but Anaheim goalkeeper John Gibson was only taken aback by this and missed again. The Russian issued a double - before that, he had only one puck in the NHL matches.

Guryanov went around goals in a season for Alexander Radulov, who continued to serve the link in the third link. For the second time since 2008, the attacker had to spend less than 13 minutes on the ice, and it was deserved - he did not make a single shot, and his removal led to the only goal against Ben Bishop.

Inspiration from Panarin

The New York Rangers are also experiencing tremendous gaming challenges. The only hope for the fans continues to give Artemy Panarin. After five defeats in a row, he was pushed to the second link in order to somehow cheer up the team, which was visited by the very powerful Buffalo Sabers. This move paid off - in the middle of the first period, Panarin robbed an opponent in the middle zone and himself opened an account.

The Rangers were so inspired by this insolence that they began to squeeze confused rivals. Moreover, all hockey players did this, except for Kaapo Kakko, who was not justified in advance, who was remembered at the last World Cup. The owners of the ice scored five more goals, and Pavel Buchnevich recorded the transfer to Tony Deangelo as an asset. Eastern Conference leaders responded with just two goals, and New Yorkers finally rose from last place in their division.

The Return of Dadonov

In the first half of October, Evgeny Dadonov could be considered the strongest Russian in the NHL. There was a short period when he scored seven points in four matches for the Florida Panthers, scoring four goals. But then the striker began a goalless series, and it was interrupted only after three games.

In an away meeting with Calgary Flames, Dadonov beautifully walked around the defenders on the right flank and gently directed the puck towards the goal. His goal in the third period allowed Florida to catch up with the hosts and make the score 4-4. But then the teams scored one another on the puck, and after overtime the winner had to be determined in a series of shootouts.

Florida goalkeeper Sergei Bobrovsky was not a favorite in this shootout. Previously, he made only 19 saves, which for himself is a very modest indicator. He could not get together and save the team - after two throws he had missed, Calgary celebrated the victory.
