A scoring Wout Weghorst lost a lead in the Europa League with VfL Wolfsburg on a visit to AA Gent (2-2) on Thursday. Justin Kluivert and AS Roma also gave away three points against Borussia Mönchengladbach: 1-1.
Wolfsburg, with Jeffrey Bruma in the starting line-up, took the lead early on against Ghent. Weghorst tapped in a cross by Marcel Tisserand at the second post. João Victor doubled the margin and just before half-time Roman Yaremchuk provided the connection goal. Deep in injury time, Yaremchuk also made 2-2.
The German club is still in the lead in Group I with five points from three games. AA Gent also has five points and is second. In the same pool, Saint-Etienne-FC Oleksandriya finished in 1-1. Both clubs have two points after three rounds of play.
AS Roma was also on its way to three points. With Kluivert in the base, however, the Italians lost a lead against Gladbach in their own home in the final phase: 1-1. Nicolo Zaniolo seemed to be the man of the match with the 1-0 after half an hour, but Lars Stindl hit the Germans from eleven meters in the 95th minute.
In group J, the game between Istanbul Basaksehir and Wolfsberger also ended in 1-0. For example, after three games, AS Roma is leading with five points. Istanbul Basaksehir and Wolfsberger have four points and Borussia Mönchengladbach is the last player with two points.
With Joeri de Kamps and Myenty Abena in the starting line-up, Slovan Bratislava lost home to Wolverhampton Wanderers (1-2), while in the same group Jeremain Lens stayed on the bench with Besiktas (1-2 loss against SC Braga). Jody Lukoki, who was replaced after an hour, also went down; Ludogorets lost 0-1 to Espanyol in-house.
