The date of one of the main matches of the fall, the next meeting of the Spanish giants Real and Barcelona, has not yet been approved. On October 21, the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) Competition Committee was due to decide on which day the game will take place as part of the 10th round. However, the final decision was never made.

Initially, the 243rd in the history of the match between the two strongest teams in Spain, also known as El Clasico, was supposed to take place next Saturday, October 26th. But because of the ongoing mass protests in the capital of Catalonia, the game had to be postponed. At the same time, setting a new date was not easy - the clubs could not agree with either Example or RFEF.

Between themselves, “Barcelona” and “Real” agreed that they are ready to play on December 18. By that time, the Champions League group stage will already be completed, and the clubs will have time to meet each other on weekdays between the 17th and 18th rounds of the Spanish Championship. The team sent such a proposal to the competition committee.

Representatives of Examples also sent their appeal to RFEF. The league wants the match to take place on a reserve day, which is December 4th. The organizers of the championship of Spain do not want to hold el clasico two weeks later for several reasons. Matches of the first round of the Cup of the country, which Real and Barcelona miss, are already scheduled for December 18, as well as a semifinal game with Liverpool's participation in the club world championship.

It will be difficult for owners of rights to broadcast matches on television to partake of these events on Wednesday evening. According to Marca, the match’s television audience will be reduced by 60% if the main confrontation of Spanish football takes place on December 18.

On Monday, the RFEF competition committee refused to accept the offer from Real Madrid and Barcelona. But at the same time, December 4 was also not approved as the final date. Clubs strongly opposed this option, as this will greatly complicate their competitive schedule, when the last rounds of the Champions League group stage will be held.

The parties were given another day to think. “Barcelona” and “Real” will have to offer their date for the match October 22 to 20:00 European time. After that, the competition committee will meet again and try again to resolve the conflict.

In the Example, they reacted negatively to the fact that the issue with the date of el-clasico is still not resolved. The league insists that she herself has the right to set the dates of the match, and are ready to go to court to defend her rights. This was stated by spokesman for the championship of Spain in Russia, Daniel Serejido.

“The committee decided to postpone the match and had to agree a new date between the clubs. As a result, on Monday, the committee announced that the game was postponed to December 18 - this is Wednesday. The league is not happy. We are going to appeal to the civil court, because in accordance with the legislation of Spain we have the right to independently determine the schedule of matches, ”Izvestia quoted Serejido.

As Marca learned, the Example also wants to recover the costs of the league through the court due to the fact that the RFEF is delayed with the final decision on the transfer.

A possible solution to the conflict could be the transfer of El Classico to December 7th. This day the 16th round of the championship of Spain will begin, in which Real Madrid will host Espanyol, and Barcelona will meet with Majorca. In this case, both Spanish grandees will not have to tighten their schedule at the end of autumn, and these matches, which do not cause fans of increased interest, could be postponed indefinitely.

According to Serejido, football fans would be better off if Barcelona and Real Madrid met on a day off. But in this case, the interests of Espanyol and Mallorca will be affected, which have nothing to do with the difficult situation that has arisen.

A compromise option was previously discussed with the exchange of circles between Real Madrid and Barcelona. On October 26, the match could take place in Madrid, and the next el-clasico would take place in the capital of Catalonia on March 1, when the situation in the region will improve. But in Barcelona they categorically opposed such an option. In addition, there are only four days left until October 26, which makes the postponement of the match and its holding at the previously appointed time even more difficult.
