PSV has extended the Toon Gerbrands contract for three years on Friday. As a result, the managing director will be in the hands of the people of Eindhoven until mid-2025.

"The course that PSV is sailing under Gerbrands fits the club. Under his leadership, a vision towards 2030 has been developed. We believe in that strategy and that is why we thought it was important that Toon should stay with PSV for a longer period of time," said Commissioner Jan. Albers Friday during a press conference.

Gerbrands, 61, has been acting as PSV's general manager since the summer of 2014, where he succeeded Tiny Sanders. From 2002 to 2014 he worked in that position at AZ, which won the national title in 2009.

PSV already extended the Gerbrands contract in May 2016 until mid-2022. The people of Eindhoven have so far won three national titles under Gerbrands, twice the Johan Cruijff Scale and once the TOTO KNVB Cup (2012). In the 2016/2017 season, PSV also reached the eighth finals of the Champions League.

"Work at PSV in a way that suits me"

Gerbrands is happy that he will remain connected to PSV for longer. "At PSV, we work together in a way that suits me. The world of football is evolving at lightning-fast, engaging ways, but the ambitions never change. I look forward to continuing to make my contribution."

Gerbrands did not start his career in the football world. He was a professional volleyball player for many years and was the coach of Dutch volleyball players in the late 1990s. Between 2000 and 2002, Gerbrands acted as director of the then skating team DSB, after which he switched to AZ.

PSV currently occupies second place in the Eredivisie with 23 points. There are just as many as leader Ajax, but the team from Amsterdam enjoy a better goal difference than the team of coach Mark van Bommel. PSV continues the competition on Saturday with a away game against FC Utrecht. Ajax is visiting RKC Waalwijk.
