The cyclist Eddy Merckx would have fallen Sunday from his bike during a trip with friends, reports the Flemish newspaper Het Nieuwsblad.

Eddy Merckx, a Belgian cycling legend, was admitted Sunday to the emergency department of the Dendermonde hospital, wounded in the head following a fall by bicycle, reported Monday morning the newspaper Het Nieuwsblad.

According to the Flemish daily, the five-time winner of the Tour de France, aged 74, fell Sunday during a trip with friends, which caused him a "serious injury to the head".
