Liverpool escaped the first point loss in the Premier League on Saturday. Thanks to a penalty kick by James Milner in extra time, it became 2-1 against Leicester City. Earlier in the day, Tottenham Hotspur had to swallow another painful defeat.
In the first half of Liverpool-Leicester, the visitors had a good time, but still went to rest. Sadio Mané broke through and finished coolly.
After the break Liverpool - with Virgil van Dijk and Georginio Wijnaldum in the base - did not manage to push through against the brave Leicester, who reached the same level ten minutes before time. James Maddison scored and seemed to determine the final score.
However, Liverpool turned on again and that led to the winning goal just in time. Mané was knocked out in the penalty area, Milner hit the goal from eleven meters and Anfield exploded.
The victory means that Liverpool is also clear after eight Premier League rounds. 'The Reds' have an eight point lead over number two Manchester City, which is still playing on Sunday.
Tottenham loses and sees Lloris fall out
Tottenham lost 3-0 at Brighton & Hove Albion. It is the second major defeat in a week for coach Mauricio Pochettino's team, after Bayern Munich humiliated the team in front of its own audience in the Champions League with 2-7.
To make matters worse, goalkeeper Hugo Lloris also dropped out against Brighton, with an apparently serious arm injury. The Frenchman was wrong and twisted his elbow. He was carried off the field with a stretcher.
Just before that, Lloris had made a huge mistake. He released the ball in the third minute, from which Neal Maupay took advantage. It then became the day of Aaron Connolly, who made his basic debut at Brighton. Nineteen-year-old Irishman made the 2-0 after half an hour and was also good for the 3-0 in the second half.
Tottenham is currently seventh in the Premier League due to the eleven points defeat, although many clubs are still in action. Brighton climbs to position twelve and has only two points less than the 'Spurs'.
Norwich City-Aston Villa also finished in no less than 1-5, Burnley was 1-0 too strong for Everton and no goals were scored at Watford-Sheffield United.
