The auction house Bonhams auctioned this weekend the collection of vehicles held by the son of Teodoro Obiang, dictator of Equatorial Guinea. A total of 25 cars searched by the Geneva prosecutor's office (Switzerland) in 2016 after a money laundering investigation. The lot, among which were McLaren, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Bentley or Rolls-Royce, reached a value of almost 25 million euros, almost double the starting price. The amount raised will go to finance social programs in the former Spanish colony.

One of the vehicles of 'Teodorín' -pod with which Obiang's son is known- that reached a higher price in bids was a 2014 Lamborghini Veneno Roadster of which only nine units were made. It exceeded 7.6 million euros.

Corruption, excesses and eccentricities have always surrounded the life of 'Theodorin'. In 2014, a Ferrari was seized in the US, along with a mansion and a collection of Michael Jackson's objects. And in 2017 a French court accused him of embezzlement. There were also luxury cars in between ...
