The Super Bowl show was abandoned last year

The two Latin stars will have the mission to restore all its brilliance to a show, yet a showcase world single for the artists, who has struggled to find performers for the last Super Bowl, after the case Colin Kaepernick. The former quarterback of the San Francisco 49ers, now without a club, had launched in 2017 a boycott of the American anthem, in protest against police violence against blacks. This led him to be heavily attacked by Donald Trump, for whom those who followed his movement insulted the nation and had to be fired.

As a direct result of this affair, the Super Bowl show, usually so attractive and coveted by music stars, was abandoned last year, as Rihanna, Pink or Cardi B refused to participate as a sign of support for Kaepernick. So much so that it is the pop group Maroon 5, accompanied by rappers Travis Scott and Big Boi, who tried to ensure the show, without meeting a great success. In August, the NFL partnered with rap star and businessman Jay-Z, a keen supporter of Kaepernick, described as an action for social justice. The artist, accused by some of privileging money and betraying the former 49er, said that it would allow the league to go from protest to action. His Roc Nation Roc Nation Society is home to many artists, including Shakira.
