Nigel Benn, world champion in 1990 and 1992, announced on Thursday that he will rise again to a ring at age 55 to finally say goodbye to alcohol and depression, the demons that accompanied him throughout his career.

"I have thought about it for a long time," said the Briton during a press conference in London. "This fight represents everything for me. It is not a matter of money, there is no economic objective. It is about having the end I wanted and never had," added the Londoner

Nicknamed Dark Destroyer , Benn conquered the OMB middleweight belt in 1990, and later won the CMB title of the supermedians in 1992, which he retained for four years.

"I don't know how I managed to get this far. I had so many problems in my life, since my youth. In 1972 my brother died murdered, that tormented me all my life. I started smoking cigarettes with 8 years, until 41. I was ecstatic, I smoked my whole career. I suffered depression, "he confessed.

His last fight goes back 23 years ago, when he faced Irishman Steve Collins for the OMB title of the supermedia, combat settled with defeat.

"I was at the bottom of the hole for a long time. I wanted to kill myself. I wanted to end all this. And then, in 2008, I found Jesus. That's how my life changed completely. I ended up with the poles, with ecstasy, with women ... ", he acknowledged.

Nigel Benn will fight with Cameroonian Sakio Bika, 40, in Birmingham on November 23. In recent years, the British had been seen in the rings accompanying his son, also boxer Conor Benn
