FC Barcelona has been somewhat retarded for the painful defeat against Granada. With Frenkie de Jong as substitute, Villarreal won 2-1 at home on Tuesday. Matthijs de Ligt booked a difficult 1-2 win with Brescia with Juventus.
For the first time since his move from Ajax, De Jong started on the reserve bench. After more than an hour of playing, he came in as Sergi Roberto's substitute.
The final score was already on the scoreboard at that time. Antoine Griezmann gave the home team the lead in the sixth minute, after which Arthur made it 2-0 with a brilliant swipe. Santi Cazorla relieved the tension in no time, but with some difficulty Barcelona pulled the win over.
Lionel Messi started in the base for the first time this season after having recovered from a calf injury. In the break, however, the Argentinian remained in the dressing room.
Barcelona has not lost a point in Camp Nou this season, but no match has been won on foreign soil. After Saturday's 2-0 loss against Granada, the Catalans dropped to seventh place, thanks to the victory at Villarreal, the team is now fourth.
