Rebecca Peterson lost 2-1 in the set, 6-1,4-6,7-5, against Ukrainian Kateryna Kozlova in the qualifiers in to the big tournament in Wuhan last Saturday.

But after Madison Keys, ranked 13th in the world, early this morning was forced to throw in the towel in the first round against Italian Camila Giorgi, 64 at the world rankings, the Swedish got the place from the American.

Once there it went fast.

The 24-year-old won the first set by 6-2 in 34 minutes and just three minutes into the second Giorgi took the ankle and was then forced to cancel.

Thus Peterson goes straight on to the second round. There is now Croatian Petra Martic, ranked 22, waiting for Tuesday.
