Uzbekistan coach Hector Cooper has been sacked because of poor results, the Uzbekistan Football Association announced on Monday.

The sacking of Cooper comes after the team's poor start in the joint qualifiers for the 2022 World Cup and the 2023 Asian Cup, where the team started his qualifying campaign with a 2-0 defeat against his Palestinian counterpart on September 5, followed by a goalless draw with Iraq friendly.

The 63-year-old Cooper, who has previously coached several teams around the world, took charge of the Uzbekistan national team in August 2018 after his departure from Egypt after an early exit from the first round (group stage) of the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

Cooper also left Uzbekistan early in the Asian Cup, hosted by the United Arab Emirates earlier this year, and saw off the tournament on penalties against Australia in the second round (round of 16).
