MADRID (Reuters) - Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane was furious at his lack of unity after the 13-times European champions kicked off their Champions League campaign with a 3-0 defeat at Paris St Germain on Wednesday.
Real, the record holder of the title, were the worst side, especially in the midfield, and failed to hit any ball on goal at the Princes Park Stadium.
"Obviously the opponent was the best side in the midfield," the Frenchman told a news conference. "What frustrated me was that we didn't play so sharply and at this level of the tournament.
"What worries me is the lack of sharpness," added Zidane after Real's first defeat of the season.
As Real Madrid's midfield was choked by PSG duo Idrissa Gaye and Marco Verratti, the Spanish team struggled to move forward.
"Failure to create opportunities under the attacking group led by Gareth Bale, Karim Benzema and Eden Hazard is a strange feeling," Zidane said.
PSG showed more enthusiasm and Angel Di Maria opened the scoring when he set off to meet Juan Bernat's cross at the near post.
Guy then pushed into the middle of the pitch to create the second goal for Maria, before Thomas Monier wrapped up the French team's goals.
Goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois was not at his best, but Zidane rejected any criticism of the Belgian. "This is everyone's fault. We win together and lose together."
"All the games are important," Zidane said. "Now we know we need to think about our next game. The Champions League has started. We are not happy with defeat but we have to think about the next game."
