57-year-old Crespi replaces Frenchman Francois Gomez who led Sweden to fifth place in this summer's European Championship. A placement that also meant Olympic qualification for the Swedish ladies.

Crespi led the Italian women to the eighth finals of the European Championships (loss to Russia) and was the assistant coach when the men won the Euro gold in 1999.

The first test for the Italian will be the European qualifying matches away against Israel on November 14 and at home against Montenegro on November 17.

- It will be fun to get to know the Swedish mentality, says Crespi to SVT Sport.
