The international judo federation IJF suspended the Iranian judo association on Wednesday for an indefinite period. The reason is a deliberate defeat of Saeid Mollaei during last month's World Cup.

The Iranian authorities and the national judo federation demanded that the defending champion in the class up to 81 kilograms withdraw, because there was a good chance that he would face the Israeli Sagi Muki in the final. Iran does not recognize Israel as a country.

Mollaei did not respond to the wishes of his country and was subsequently put under increasing pressure by the authorities of his country. He lost his party in the semifinals on purpose and has been in hiding ever since.

According to the IJF, the interference of the authorities and the judo union is in violation of a letter signed in May by the Iranian Olympic Committee and the president of the national association and there is a "very serious violation" of the rules.

The case is being referred to the disciplinary committee of the IJF. The Iranian judo association has the opportunity to go to the international sports tribunal CAS.
