Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) dominated Real Madrid 3-0 for their UEFA Club Championship UEFA Cup debut in Group A on September 18, 2019. The PSG were nonetheless of his three star strikers, Edinson Cavani, Kylian Mbappé and Neymar. But the Argentinian Angel Di Maria split a doubled, in particular.

Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) launched its European campaign in an ideal way, this 18 September 2019. The champion of France football has been clearly in his advantage against the great Real Madrid driven by Zinedine Zidane but deprived of several frames (Luka Modric, Marco Asensio, Isco, Marcelo and Sergio Ramos).

A first almost perfect period of the PSG

PSG was also reduced by the absences of his three stars, Kylian Mbappé, Edinson Cavani (wounded) and Neymar (suspended). But he has more resources in attack than he seems. He can count on an experienced Angel Di Maria. In the 14th minute, the winger cuts the trajectory of a center delivered by the left side Juan Bernat. He instantly lodged the ball between the opposing right and the goalkeeper "Merengue" Thibaut Courtois (1-0). In the 33rd minute, the Senegalese Idrissa Gana Gueye, excellent that evening at the Parc des Princes, intercept the ball and the address to the Argentine. The latter adjusts a shot that allows his team to lead 2-0.

The first period of the PSG seems then almost perfect, but Gareth Bale makes down the Parisians of their cloud. The Real winger lobbed his former teammate, goalkeeper Keylor Navas, with a superb half volley volley. But, after verification with video assistance (VAR), the referee Anthony Taylor returns on his decision to validate the goal (36th) because the Welsh touched the ball with his right arm.

Low Real Madrid

In the ranks of Madrid, it is apathy. Eden Hazard is transparent in attack, while the trio of midfielders James Rodrigues-Casemiro-Toni Kroos is dominated by his Parisian counterpart. Only Benzema is regularly threatening, with a goal invalidated for offside (77th) and a dangerous header (79th).

On the hour of play, Real was close to the correction, but Angel Di Maria was unclear when trying a difficult lob (60th). And Pablo Sarabia also missed the goal of the knockout shortly after (61st). But during stoppage time, the Belgian Thomas Meunier carries the thrust at close range, on a counterattack well led by Bernat. Final score: 3-0. PSG moved to the top of Group A, before going to challenge Galatasaray in Turkey on 1 October.
