Tour de France winner Egan Bernal has decided not to participate in the World Cycling Championships later this month. His place in the Colombian team is taken by Carlos Betancur.
On Sunday, after a period of uncertainty about the participation of Bernal, it was announced that the 22-year-old top climber of Team INEOS would be one of the spearheads in the selection.
Besides Movistar rider Betancur, the Colombian team now consists of Nairo Quintana, Álvaro Hodeg, Fernando Gaviria, Esteban Chaves, Daniel Martínez, Sebastián Molano and Sebastián Henao.
Sergio Higuita is a striking absence. The rider of Education First, who booked a nice stage victory in the Vuelta, takes part in the promises.
The men's road race will be held on Sunday, September 29. The peloton gets a hilly course over 284 kilometers for the wheels. Alejandro Valverde is the title defender.
