The 18 Premier League clubs have scored no fewer than 46 goals this weekend, thereby setting a goal record in this century.
It only happened once this century that 46 goals were scored in one round of games: on May 16, 2004, the last game of the 2003/2004 season. Ajax won that day 2-5 at Willem II, NAC beat RKC 5-3 and Feyenoord triumphed 7-1 against PEC Zwolle.
This weekend, VVV-Venlo was the least goal duel against FC Groningen (2-1). At PEC Zwolle-RKC Waalwijk, no fewer than eight goals (6-2) were scored.
PSV striker Donyell Malen was with five goals against Vitesse (5-0 win) the most surefire player in the sixth round of the Eredivisie. PEC striker Reza Ghoochannejhad made history on Sunday by being the first substitute ever to score four goals at the highest level in the Netherlands.
The record for the number of goals in one round is 51. That happened in round two of the 1958/1959 season and thirty round of the 1997/1998 season.
