The necessary shifts at the top of the rankings. Roglic remains the number one and takes a few bonus action seconds at Valverde, who passes Quintana. López drives Pogacar out of the youth jersey and is number four, with a half a minute ahead of the young Slovenian.

Great victory for Sergio Higuita, who immediately adds to his big debut with a stage win.

Vuelta a España · 5 minutes ago

A minute from Roglic, Valverde, Majka and López, Quintana, Pogacar, Hagen and Meintjes arrive. Pogacar loses fourth place and the white jersey to López, Quintana changes places with Valverde and drops to third place in the general classification.

Vuelta a España · 7 minutes ago

Finish - Roglic wins 17 seconds behind Higuita the sprint for the second place from Valverde, Majka becomes fourth.

Vuelta a España · 8 minutes ago

Finish - Sergio Higuita wins the eighteenth stage in the Vuelta! The Colombian completes a beautiful solo.

Vuelta a España · 9 minutes ago

Still 1 km - Higuita seems to make it! He still has to keep pedaling.

Vuelta a España · 11 minutes ago

Another 2 km - With the safe harbor in sight, Higuita loses some ground on Roglic and co. The Colombian has 25 seconds left, it would be sad if he was picked up just before the finish. Roglic, Valverde and López do not have to give him anything, of course, but there are also bonus seconds at hand.

Vuelta a España · 14 minutes ago

Another 4 km - Pogacar and Quintana drive about a minute behind Roglic, Valverde and López. If that remains the case, the world champion will move past his teammate at Movistar again in the standings and López will jump over Pogacar to take the lead again in the youth standings.

Vuelta a España · 18 minutes ago

8 km to go - It is not that Roglic, Valverde, López and Majka will not continue, Higuita simply shows that it can descend very well. The foursome does not get any closer to the Colombian, who can smell the stage win.

Still 13 km - The stage victory for Higuita is getting closer. The difference with Roglic, Valverde, López and Majka continues to fluctuate around forty seconds.

Vuelta a España · 25 minutes ago

Another 16 km - Pogacar has since been taken care of by Quintana, Hagen and Meintjes. Maybe they can help the young Slovenian a little, but it looks like he will have to hand over his white jersey at the finish to López, who drives 45 seconds away.

Vuelta a España · 27 minutes ago

Another 19 km - In the front, Higuita drives for what he is worth, but his lead over Roglic, Valverde, López and Majka crumbles very slowly. The Colombian still has 38 seconds left, it will start to tense up.

Vuelta a España · 29 minutes ago

Another 20 km - No dirt in the air for Primoz Roglic. The Slovenian red jersey carrier has already seen close attacker Nairo Quintana fall away and keeps a close eye on Alejandro Valverde.

🇪🇦 # LaVuelta19 So far, so good for @rogla! Higuita still 52 seconds in front.

Vuelta a España · 32 minutes ago

Another 23 km - Pogacar sees its backlog on the Roglic group to half a minute. That means that López virtually has the youth jersey again. The only twenty-year-old Slovenian, however, is a tough one, that battle is not over yet.

Vuelta a España · 34 minutes ago

Another 25 km - Higuita is first on top of the fourth and final climb of the day. The Colombian is still 45 seconds ahead of his closest attackers and was just the best in the descent. Can he get rid of Roglic, Valverde, López and Majka and take the ride?

Vuelta a España · 36 minutes ago

Another 26 km - Quintana is paying heavily for his trick of yesterday. The number two in the rankings is already 45 seconds behind the rest of the classification men and seems to lose his podium place here.

Vuelta a España · 40 minutes ago

Another 28 km - Majka manages to get to Roglic, Valverde and López, but Pogacar does not succeed. Young Slovene drives away from Quintana and sees the rest driving in the distance. Due to the violence of the classification riders, Higuita's lead has shrunk to less than a minute. It is a mile to the top.

Vuelta a España · 44 minutes ago

Another 29 km - López keeps trying and gets Roglic and Valverde. Majka, Quintana and Pogacar must now pass.

Vuelta a España · one hour ago

Another 30 km - López makes another attempt and stands on the pedals. He is keen to drive Pogacar off and reclaim the youth jersey. However, that is not yet possible.

Vuelta a España · one hour ago

Another 30 km - Colombian cyclists are generally excellent climbers. Higuita proves that again today, as he slowly but surely increases his lead on the last climb of the day. He now has more than a minute and a half to catch, while it is not the least names that are after him.

Vuelta a España · one hour ago

32 km to go - Higuita is one minute ahead of the large group of favorites. Strong example of the Colombian from EF Education First, who is revanched for his substantial loss of time yesterday.

Vuelta a España · one hour ago

36 km to go - This way, the favorites can start bombarding each other on the last climb. Of the top ten, we have lost Kelderman, Knox and Teuns. Number six Kelderman has a 2.35 lead over Majka in the rankings, can the Dutchman limit the damage?

Vuelta a España · one hour ago

37 km to go - The coup attempt at López failed, the other classification men grabbed him again. To what extent does the Colombian from Astana pay for his effort on the last climb?

Vuelta a España · one hour ago

39 km to go - The López group connects with the Poels group. The amalgamation is one minute behind Higuita. Moments later, the group with the red sweater joins. The descent has ensured that everything has come together again.

Vuelta a España · one hour ago

40 km to go - All groups have survived the descent and are now heading for the last climb of the day, the Puerto de Cotos. However, the finish is not at the top, a considerable descent will have to be completed once again to reach the finish, 25 kilometers away.

Vuelta a España · one hour ago

Still 42 km - Higuita throws itself down with true contempt for death, according to the GPS, the Colombian suddenly has a 45 second lead on his closest pursuers!

Vuelta a España · one hour ago

Still 46 km - The situation is now about like this:

-We have a lonely leader with Sergio Higuita.
- Pernsteiner, Rodriguez, Bouchard, Poels and Meintjes drive about a second behind him
-After another minute, Miguel Ángel López is busy with an all-or-nothing attack, helped by teammate Omar Fraile.
Hart, Oliveira and Koch are still in that group, which is twenty seconds ahead of the favorites group, including Roglic.

Vuelta a España · one hour ago

49 km to go - Nowhere are the differences as deceptive as in a descent, but it is clear that Sergio Higuita is falling faster than his fellow refugees. The Colombian throws himself down like a rock and sees that nobody can keep up with him.

Vuelta a España · one hour ago

The moment that López leaves the other classification men behind. The Astana leader's lead over its competitors is still around twenty seconds.

55 km to go - When the classification men are at the top, Quintana has to leave a gap. The Colombian, who took a big hit yesterday, will be added in the descent again, but this does not promise much good for him with another climb ahead. Meanwhile, López comes to Omar Fraile, who is going to take his leader in the descent in tow.

Vuelta a España · one hour ago

Another 56.5 km - Bouchard is the first to climb the third climb and takes another ten points for the mountain classification. Poels is also among the front riders, but the classification men are approaching fast.

Vuelta a España · one hour ago

Another 57 km - The group of favorites is considerably thinned out. Only Roglic (Kuss) and Quintana / Valverde (Soler) still have an assistant, for the rest it is everyone, the group is no larger than about eight people. For example, Kelderman is no longer included.

Vuelta a España · one hour ago

Another 58 km - López takes the group of favorites for about twenty seconds. The leaders are just over 1 kilometer from the top, López is more than a minute and a half behind.

Vuelta a España · 2 hours ago

Another 59 km - López puts the wick in the powder keg among the favorites! That is early, but the Colombian must try something drastic if he still wants to go to the podium.

Vuelta a España · 2 hours ago

Another 60 km - Under the leadership of mountain king Bouchard and Poels, Koch and Meintjes with another 4 km to the top are called to order again. The peloton is getting very fast in the meantime, the front runners have only three minutes left.

Vuelta a España · 2 hours ago

63 km to go - Astana is leading the pack on the third climb of the day and at least the pace acceleration causes Roglic to lose some helpers. The backlog on the frontrunners is decreasing quickly, it's only four minutes.

Vuelta a España · 2 hours ago

Another 64 km - Koch and Meintjes don't want to bother. The German and the South African already have a minute on their former flight mates. They in turn drive a good four minutes ahead of the pack.

Vuelta a España · 2 hours ago

The horses will not compete for the stage win today, but they do provide beautiful images.

Another 67 km - Koch and Meintjes don't think it is going fast enough in the leading group and the two of them run off at the foot of the third climb. Poels and his companions do not really switch on yet, they trust that they will be added in the climb.

Vuelta a España · 2 hours ago

Geoffrey Bouchard thinks it's all fine. The Frenchman would of course like to win the stage, but in the meantime he is doing excellent business in the battle for the mountain jersey. Bouchard now has 66 points and that is 22 more than the number two in the mountain classification, Ángel Madrazo, who is also not included in the leading group. Moreover, Bouchard can gather even more points during this ride, because the lead on the peloton is still considerable.

Vuelta a España · 2 hours ago

79 km to go - There have not been many changes in the course of the last few kilometers. The lead of the thirteen leaders remains around five minutes. With two more climbs to go, the riders take it a bit easier.

Vuelta a España · 2 hours ago

Another 87 km - Bouchard strengthens its lead in the mountain classification by being the first to rise on the Puerto de la Morcuera. With that he takes ten points and ends in number two Ángel Madrazo. Wout Poels comes in third at the top of the climb and grabs four mountain points.

Vuelta a España · 3 hours ago

This is what the flight of the day looks like. The peloton clearly has peace with this leading group and let the lead rise to more than five minutes.

105 km to go - Pretty piece of work by Pernsteiner. He closes the gap with the front runners, so that the leading group now consists of thirteen men. The peloton takes it a bit slower and now looks back at a 3.30 minute lag.
