ADO The Hague has registered a new player a week and a half after the end of the summer transfer period. The transfer-free Thom Haye signed a two-year contract with the number eleven of the Eredivisie on Thursday.
Last year, 24-year-old Haye switched from Willem II to Lecce, Italy, in the summer, but recently canceled his contract with the club promoted to Serie A. The former youth international was therefore able to change clubs after the transfer market closed.
Haye attended AZ's youth academy and debuted in 2014 on behalf of the Alkmaarders in the Eredivisie. Two years and 73 games later, he left for Willem II, where he scored five goals in 71 official matches.
ADO was still looking for a playmaker after the departure of Nasser El Khayati to Qatar SC. The born Rotterdammer was the top scorer of the Hagenaars in the Eredivisie last season with seventeen hits. He also provided twelve assists.
"We are happy that we were able to capture Thom after the market closed", says football affairs manager Jeffrey van As on the ADO site. "He adds creativity and dynamism to our midfield. Thom is a player who can be an important pivot in the position game, but can also form a good link between midfield and the attack."
ADO, which won six points from its first five games, continues the competition on Sunday with an away game against Feyenoord. It is not yet certain whether Haye will then be entitled to play.
