Dubai Sports Council has launched the third edition of the sports program for inmates of penal and correctional centers in Dubai, in cooperation with the General Directorate of Penal and Correctional Institutions at Dubai Police, which comes within the framework of the Hamdan Bin Mohammed Community Sports Initiative.

The program aims to provide a healthy sporting environment for guests within the centers for exercise and physical activity.

The Dubai Sports Council held a press conference yesterday in the presence of the Secretary General of Dubai Sports Council, Saeed Hareb, and the Director General of Penal and Correctional Institutions, Brigadier Ali Al Shamali. The conference was also attended by Assistant Secretary General of Dubai Sports Council, Nasser Aman Al Rahma, General Directorate of Penal and Correctional Institutions, Brigadier General Marwan Abdulkarim Julfar, and Chairman of the IC Reps Foundation for Sports Management, Nasser Al-Tamimi.

"The Dubai Sports Council has a strong strategic relationship and cooperation with the Dubai Police. Both are keen to support the efforts to spread exercise to various segments of society because of its great benefits to the health and happiness of its practitioners," said Hareb.

He added: «We consider that the inmates of penal and correctional institutions of various nationalities are part of the community, sports can contribute to support the process of rehabilitation and return to the community are healthy and happy, and be useful members of their community».

He continued: «The past two years witnessed a joint work between the Council and Dubai Police to train trainers from within the penal and correctional institutions to train inmates, and we have been keen to provide these institutions with appropriate sports equipment that contribute to the happiness of inmates. After the success of this experience, the Council is pleased to continue to cooperate with the police in organizing the sports program for the inmates, and to provide all means that encourage the exercise of sport for all segments of society. The Committee on Women and Sports in the Council was keen to visit the penal institutions during the national celebrations of Women's Day. Emirati Women's Day and Lt. Col. Jamila Al Zaabi, Director of the Women's Prison Department, honored the occasion.

For his part, Brigadier Ali Mohammed Al Shamali thanked the Dubai Sports Council for their cooperation with the General Directorate of Penal and Correctional Centers in supporting the sports activity in these centers through the guest sports program held under the umbrella of Hamdan Bin Mohammed Community Sports Initiative, which includes the establishment of sports sessions for guests Throughout the year, which began with a basketball referees course, followed by a training course for guest fitness trainers and yoga instructors aimed at creating a healthy sporting environment within these centers, he said: “This program is one of the outstanding initiatives, being the first of its kind in the world. Allen The trainees from the management of training sessions in fitness, yoga and basketball for the guests inside these centers, in addition to qualifying the inmate to integrate into the community after leaving the center to qualify to work in fitness and training centers for various sports, and the sports equipment provided by the Council to the centers will encourage guests A lot in training and motivate them to exercise and physical activity ».

For his part, Nasser Al-Tamimi, that «IC Reps Foundation for Sports Management, is keen to contribute to this pioneering initiative from our role in the development of society and within the framework of social responsibility».

“The inmates will receive internationally recognized certificates that will enable them to work officially, both inside and outside the country. This is not the case in any country in the world. 20 inmates and 20 inmates were granted accredited training certificates and will be enrolled in October. “Next is more specialized courses to get a higher license, which gives them the opportunity to work in more specialized areas.”
