England has won an important victory in the European Championship qualifying cycle on Tuesday. 'The Three Lions' beat Kosovo in a goalfestival with 5-3. Cristiano Ronaldo was once again of great value for Portugal with four goals.
England came on Wembley after one minute behind by a hit by Valon Berisha. At half time the team of national coach Gareth Southgate led with a whopping 5-1 thanks to two goals from Jadon Sancho and goals from Raheem Sterling, Harry Kane and Mergim Vojvoda (own goal).
The three runs seemed to come in for the English, but Berisha and Vedat Muriqi (penalty kick) brought Kosovo back into the game early in the second half. Moments later, Aaneanet Muric saw Kane see a penalty turned, but the home country eventually gave up the win.
With the victory, England strengthens the lead in group A with twelve points from four games. The lead on number two Czech Republic, which won 0-3 at Montenegro, is three points. Moreover, the Czechs have played a game more. Kosovo drops to third place with eight points.
Ronaldo leads Portugal to victory
In Group B, Ronaldo led Portugal to a 1-5 win over Lithuania. The Juventus striker opened the score from a penalty in the seventh minute, after which the home team equalized after half an hour through a goal from Vytautas Andriuskevicius.
Portugal seemed to have to fear for the third point loss in this qualifying campaign, but in the second half Ronaldo put things in order by scoring three more runs. The Lithuanian goalkeeper Ernestas Setkus made a mistake in his second goal. William Carvalho determined the final score in injury time.
With the win, Portugal is second with eight points from four games. The reigning European champion in the lead Ukraine is five points behind, although that team has played one game more. Serbia, which won 1-3 at Luxembourg without Dusan Tadic, is third with seven points.
