Liverpool are close to renewing their Dutch defender Virgil van Dijk and giving him a huge salary that puts him close to the star Mohamed Salah.
Van Dijk arrived in Liverpool in January 2018 and was instrumental in the team's outstanding results, most notably the triumph in the Champions League last season.
The Dutch defender is linked with a contract with Liverpool that extends to 2023, and currently receives about 137 thousand euros a week, but Manchester United's contract with English defender Harry Maguire with a salary of more than two hundred thousand euros, gave motivation to representatives of Van Dyke to demand a review of their client contract.
Van Dijk has agreed to extend his contract for two more seasons with more than 220,000 euros a week, becoming the highest paid defender in the world, the Mirror said.
Van Dyck has recently won the European Footballer of the Year award and is one of the favorites to win the FIFA World Player of the Year award and the AFP Golden Ball award.
