Choosing the Iraqi national team has been a long process. Already in February, Hamad tweeted that it was clear - but it wasn't.

In May, Hamad was close to making a national team debut for Iraq but was stopped by Fifa because he played with Sweden in 2006 and had not received his Iraqi passport until 2012, writes NA.se.

Hamad was born in Baku, which was part of the then Soviet Union on November 6, 1990. It is located in present-day Azerbaijan.

Left Hammarby last winter

"Finally. It has been a process but we believed in it and have remained humble. Now I've done my part, ”writes Hamad, who thanks all Iraqi fans for the support during the process.

Hamad went from Hammarby, where he made great success, to South Korean Incheon United last winter, a contract he broke last summer and trained with Örebro meanwhile as clubless. Three weeks ago, the 28-year-old signed a two-year contract with the Zagreb club HNK Gorica in the Croatian league.

Hamad has represented Swedish national teams in U17, U19, U21 and the men's national team, where he made eight national matches.
