With a victory and a loss in the European Championship qualifying, the Netherlands placed third in the European Championship qualifying group C and was in need of a victory.

But Germany on the away side is not easy and it did not start anything further for the Dutch team. Already in the ninth minute Serge Gnabry made 1-0 for the Germans when he made a return.

The away team tried during the first 45 minutes of the match, but it did not and Germany led by 1-0 at the break.

In the second half, however, the Netherlands would be paid for its toil. In the 59th minute, Barcelona player Frenkie de Jong acknowledged and a few minutes later the away team took the lead after a goal by Jonathan Tah.

Acknowledgment of punishment

But then came the cold shower.

Matthijs de Ligt unluckily got the ball on his hand and German penalty was awarded. Toni Kroos made no mistake, but placed the ball clearly in one corner for 2–2, and the Netherlands needed to get up again.

Something they also did with the help of a 20-year-old debutant.

In his first A national team match, Donyell Malen stayed ahead in the 79th minute and bounced 3-2, nicely played by Georginio Wijnaldum. In extra time, Wijnaldum then cemented a Dutch victory when he trailed 4-2 after a counter-attack.

Group C, on the other hand, is not topped by any of the teams. Northern Ireland leads by a maximum of 12 points after four matches. Germany are second in nine points and the Netherlands third in six, but with a match less played.
