The body of the 23-year-old Portuguese triathlete who disappeared last Sunday was found Thursday near the bank of the Miño river , near the Portuguese town of Vilanova de Cerveira .
According to sources confirmed by the Naval Command of Miño de Tui, the body has been found around 8.00 Spanish hours 500 meters away from the place where the young man was last sighted.
The young man had disappeared on Sunday at 4.30 pm while participating in a test in the parish of Goián, in Tomiño (Pontevedra ).
Thus, it has been found while the Spanish Navy , the Portuguese Navy , Civil Protection and firefighters from both banks of the river carried out search tasks. After sighting the young man, members of the Portuguese Maritime Police and firefighters of Vilanova de Cerveira have removed the body and their relatives have been informed of what happened.
Subsequently, the triathlete's body has been transferred to the National Institute of Legal Medicine of Viana do Castelo , in Portugal, to proceed with the autopsy.
The operation, deployed after the disappearance of the athlete, has been coordinated by the Spanish Navy and the Portuguese Navy, which have cooperated to carry out the search operation.
