Bianca Andreescu, 19 years old, is at her first Grand Slam semi-final after turning 0-1 under against Mertens. The Canadian lost the first set but found a way back into the match in the second set, where she played the set home 6-2.

In the decisive set, they held steady until 3-3, then Andreescu switched up and won three straight and is ready for the semi-finals.

- It took a lot of work, but the passion is always there.

In early 2019, 19-year-old Andreescu was ranked 107th in the world. After that, her journey to the top began, during which she won her first two WTA titles, including winning at home in Toronto, just weeks before the US Open.

"Something we all dream of"

Now she is the first teenager to reach the semi-finals of the US Open since Caroline Wozniacki did it in 2009.

- Anyone would be shocked to be in the semi-finals of a Grand Slam. It's something we all dream of since we are kids, ever since we picked up the rack for the first time, says Andreescu.

In the semi-finals she meets Belinda Bencic from Switzerland and if she were to win it there is a great chance that she will face Serena Williams in the final. A childhood idol she never got the chance to play in the final of the Rogers Cup, earlier this year, when Williams broke the finals because of an injury.
