The registrations of passenger cars and SUVs in Spain during the month of August stood at 74,490 units, which translates into a collapse of 30.8% compared to the same month of the previous year, according to data from manufacturers associations (Anfac ), dealers (Faconauto) and vendors (Ganvam).

This sharp fall is due to the fact that in August 2018, the brands urgently registered that month all the vehicles that did not comply with the new WLTP emission regulations, more stringent, and that entered into force on September 1, 2018.

But if the data of August 2017 is contrasted when 72,888 cars were sold, last August it shows a rise of 2.1% to the 74,490 units mentioned.

This fall represents the fourth consecutive of the Spanish car market after the rebound in April, when it was driven mainly by the rental channel. In addition, August last year, which had one more working day.

So far this year, car sales in the national territory accumulate a decrease of 9.2% over the same period of 2018, with 883,649 units sold.

Truck and bus deliveries fell 25.9% in August compared to the same month of 2018, with 1,285 units registered, while in the accumulated of the year they fell 0.7%, with 17,817 units marketed.

The Dacia Sandero was the best-selling model in August with 2,620 units, while the accumulated is the Seat Leon with 25,622 deliveries. Volkswagen was the best selling brand with 5,524 cars, while Seat is the best selling brand with 79,792 units.
