Felix Rosenqvist continues to make good results during her debut season in the American racing series. While several of the top drivers due to bad night times ended up far down in the field, the Swede advanced from his starting position as a fifth and finished in second place, behind the winner Will Power.

Rosenqvist was in a safe second place when a crash with eight laps left to drive caused the field to collapse while the track was cleaned. It gave him a chance to challenge Power for the victory, but when the drivers were released again, the Australian managed to stay away from the finish line.

Second place

The victory margin was 2.7 seconds.

This is the second time Felix Rosenqvist has been on the podium in Indycar. Earlier this summer, he finished second in the race in Lexington, Ohio.

The success in Portland comes just two weeks after Rosenqvist was involved in a nasty high-speed crash in the Indycar race on the Pocono oval track in Pennsylvania. Rosenqvist was taken to hospital, but managed without any major physical injuries.

Newcomer of the Year

Now Rosenqvist is approaching the desirable title of this year's newcomer. Foremost rival Santino Ferrucci had to break with seven laps remaining and now the Swede leads that table with one race left to run.

The other Indycar Swede Marcus Ericsson missed the weekend race, having been recalled by his old Formula 1 stall Alfa Romeo as a reserve for Kimi Raikkonen.

But the Finn eventually ran the race on the Spabanan in Belgium and Ericsson's journey to Europe thus became an unnecessary annoyance for the Swede chasing a contract with some Indycar stall for the next season after a less successful debut year in the US.

Ericsson's Indycar substitute, Conor Daly, had a boring day at work. He was involved in a crash already on the first lap and had to break.

The last race of this year's Indycar season will run on the Laguna Seca track in California on September 22.
