Sifan Hassan impressively won the 1,500 meters at the Diamond League in Zurich on Thursday. Dafne Schippers had to be satisfied with fourth place in the 200 meters.
The 26-year-old Hassan arrived in the Swiss city until a time of 3.57.08. She was ahead of the German Konstanze Klosterhafen (3.59.02) and the Canadian Gabriela Debues-Stafford (3.59.59).
The keeper of the Dutch record (3.55.30) passed all her competitors in the last round and walked to her first victory of the season at the 1,500 meters.
Hassan is in top form in preparation for the World Cup, which will take place at the end of September and the beginning of October. Last month, the born Ethiopian in Monaco improved the 23-year-old world record on the English mile in 4.12.33. During that race, she also set her own Dutch record at 1,500 meters.
In the 200 meters, Schippers ran to 22.46 seconds. The two-time world champion on this number was therefore only one hundredth above her best season, which she ran in Monaco.
The 200 meter win went to Shaunae Miller-Uibo from the Bahamas, who impressed by achieving the best time of the year with 21.74. She left the British Dina Asher-Smith (22.08) and the Jamaican Elaine Thompson (22.44) far behind. Jamile Samuel finished eighth and last in 23.15.
