Peterson showed strong form in Cincinnati two weeks ago, where she made her way to the third round and fell against world coach Karolina Pilskova. It helped her advance four places in the world rankings, to place 70.

Against 59th ranked Pluig, she again showed fine form when they met in the first round of the US Open in New York.

However, Pluig started the shock, broke the first clip and went from 2-0 in the first set. Then Peterson woke up, winning six of the seven consecutive clips and taking home the set 6-3.

In the second set they were followed to 3-3, before Peterson switched up - and the fatigue started to hit Pluig. The Swedish accounted for a well-placed, straight backhand and broke up to 3-4, after which there was no talk. Relatively simple, Peterson won two more clips and won by 2-0 in set.
