Bas Dost has exchanged Sporting CP for Eintracht Frankfurt on Monday. The striker signs for three years with the club from the Bundesliga, which is said to pay around 10 million euros.
The transition of the 30-year-old Dost seemed to be coming earlier this month, but was delayed after a conflict between Sporting and the attacker's management.
After Frankfurt had reported an agreement, Sporting announced that the transfer was uncertain due to additional financial requirements from Dost. The angry Dost business manager then invalidated that story.
So now the transition is complete. Dost started his career at FC Emmen and then played for Heracles Almelo, sc Heerenveen and VfL Wolfsburg, before arriving in Portugal in the summer of 2016.
The eighteen-time Oranje-international, which is no longer available for the Dutch national team since April last year, made a big impression in Sporting's shirt with 93 goals in 127 games.
Dost remained in spite of attack hooligans
More than a year ago, the Dost period at Sporting seemed to come to an end, when he was the main victim of a storm on the training complex in Alcochete by hooligans from the club. Surprisingly, he extended his contract two months later until mid-2021.
"I have always played with heart and passion for this club and we had fantastic moments, but also some very difficult and painful times," Dost refers to the attack of the hooligans at AD .
"But I have always felt the support and love of the fans in Lisbon. That is why I renewed my contract last year. I want to thank all the people who have given me their trust in the past. To be honest: saying goodbye hurts , but I'm also looking forward to playing for Frankfurt now. "
At Frankfurt, Dost meets one fellow countryman with Jonathan de Guzman. Last season, Jetro Willems also played with 'Die Adler', but the former PSV player left for Newcastle United on a rental basis this summer.
Frankfurt, which also lost the striker Luka Jovic and Sébastien Haller, finished seventh in the Bundesliga last year. This season the club is tenth after two rounds.
