Rafa Nadal faces the US Open with the momentum of victory in Montreal. The Mallorcan, who will debut before the Australian Millman, admits his good feelings and discards that having been framed on the opposite side of Djokovic and Federer suppose he can facilitate his victory.

"I think I'm playing well, and winning in Montreal has helped me," said number two, who is looking for his fourth title in New York. "I have two days of good training," said Nadal, with better knee sensations than a year ago, when he had several very long games, "and that is complicated."

Nadal also downplayed the fact that three of his great rivals, Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic and Daniil Medvedev, have fallen on the same side of the draw in the draw, which could lead them to face each other. "First I have to win games to have that advantage," said the Balearic, who has "a lot of work ahead" in Flusing Meadows. "It is part of the raffle and they are things that happen whether you are number 1, 2 or 3 in the world ... We will see what happens," he said.

Federer: "I feel better than in years here"

For his part, Roger Federer said he faces the last Grand Slam in the best conditions of recent years. "I was talking a couple of days ago that I think is the best I have felt in years coming to the US Open, which is encouraging," said the Swiss, who feels free from pressure to win a tournament that resists him since 2008

"It's going to be tough, but I feel like I'm part of that group that can do it," said Roger, who acknowledged that his victory against Nadal in the Wimbledon semifinals last July was "important" to him.

He admitted, however, that he is not in the same position as in 2006 or 2007, when he was considered one of the favorites, while pointing out that "bad luck" has influenced the fact that he has been without a decade without Win in Flushing Meadows. "It has not always been easy here. Two years ago I had problems with my back, and then I had a hard time with the heat against (John) Millman," he said in reference to his sound defeat against the Australian in the round of 16, 2018.
