• Alonso.Prepare the Dakar while Formula 1 continues to call him
  • Marc Coma. He will be the co-driver of Fernando Alonso in the next Dakar

The participation of Fernando Alonso in the next edition of the Dakar Rally seems increasingly closer . In the absence of an official confirmation, the Asturian pilot said that he is "very happy with the progress" experienced and that he is already beginning "to understand the dune piloting" after completing a four-day test in Namibia with the Toyota Hilux,.

"I am very happy with my progress after this week's test and I am beginning to understand dune piloting much better , " said Alonso, in statements released by Toyota Gazoo Racing , the Japanese team that confirmed last Tuesday that they will join their ties with the great Asturian driver after his successful campaign in the World Resistance.

"Thanks to the experience of Glyn (Hall, Toyota team leader) and Giniel (de Villiers, South African rally driver, winner of the Dakar in 2009, who accompanied him in this week's tests) we have experienced a breakthrough," Alonso explained , that as everything points out, in January he will play the great desert rally in Saudi Arabia.

"It has been very interesting to see the progress with the team. We have not only shot in dunes, we have done it on different terrains," said the double world champion of Formula 1. "But there is still a long way to go. I take all this preparation as a kind of adventure ; I go step by step, starting from scratch and improving every day, "said the pilot from Oviedo.

"There is always a competitive point, which I suppose will emerge and shine at the time, when the day comes. As I said, there is still a long way to go. You have to go step by step and enjoy every kilometer," said the Spaniard , author of the 32 victories and the 22 poles that Spain has in all its history in Formula 1, category of which Alonso said goodbye (at least momentarily) last year, in search of new challenges, after 17 seasons .

"The team is very consistent and competitive; and that is something that takes a great weight off my back," said Alonso, who seems very comfortable working with Toyota after his triumphs in the last two editions of The 24 Hours of Le Mans .

"The car is competitive and the team is there and they have a great experience, especially Glyn (Hall). He has already prepared a Dakar many times; and he knows everything that needs to be done at all times. I am very protected with them." , Alonso said after concluding the four-day test in the Namibia desert, after which all the followers of the Oviedo hope to see him next to Marc Coma as a co-driver driving through the Saudi desert next January.
