The football players of FC Twente and PSV started the Eredivisie for women on Friday evening with a big win. The reigning Dutch champion beat Excelsior / Barendrecht 4-0 and the Eindhoven team won 1-4 at sc Heerenveen.
FC Twente had few problems with Excelsior / Barendrecht in Enschede. Davinia Vanmechelen opened the score after more than fifteen minutes and in the second half Bente Jansen (2x) and Suzanne Giesen also found the net on behalf of the home team.
The Tukkers, who last season won the Dutch title for the fifth time, qualified for the Champions League main tournament a week and a half ago. In this the Austrian St. Pölten is the opponent.
At Sportpark Skoatterwâld PSV took the lead after fifteen minutes against Heerenveen via a goal by Jeslynn Kuipers. In the same minute, Melanie Bross leveled the home team.
Joëlle Smits gave Brabanders the lead again ten minutes later and Sara Yuceil expanded the margin early in the second half. Smits also determined the final score in the final phase.
Ajax will visit VV Alkmaar on Sunday
In the third game on the first day, ADO The Hague won 2-4 at PEC Zwolle. Maartje Looijen scored twice on behalf of the Hagenaars. Ajax starts the season on Sunday with a away match against VV Alkmaar.
This season the Eredivisie Women has eight instead of nine teams. Achilles'29 decided to withdraw from the competition after last season due to a lack of financial resources.
