The Dutch Fed Cup team will compete against Belarus in early February in the qualifying round for the Fed Cup Finals, as the draw revealed on Wednesday.
The Netherlands should not actually participate in the so-called qualifiers. The formation of team captain Paul Haarhuis, however, takes the place of the Czech Republic, which received a wildcard for the final round of the national tournament.
The games between the Netherlands, which relegated at the end of April by a defeat to Japan from World Group II, and the placed Belarus are played in Belarus. The meeting on a ground to be determined is scheduled for 7 and 8 February 2019.
A total of sixteen countries are taking part in the qualifiers. The eight winners qualify for the final week of the Fed Cup, which will be held in Budapest from 14 to 18 April.
In addition to the Czech Republic, this year's finalists Australia and France and host country Hungary are already assured of participation in the final week. The Dutch team was formed against Japan by Richèl Hogenkamp, Bibiane Schoofs, Lesley Pattinama-Kerkhove and Demi Schuurs.
