Daniil Medvedev won Sunday in two sets 7-6 (7/3), 6-4 and less than two hours against Belgian David Goffin.

Russia's Daniil Medvedev won his first Masters 1000 title on Sunday, winning the Cincinnati ATP final ahead of Belgium's David Goffin. At 23, he won the most important title of his young career in two sets 7-6 (7/3), 6-4 and less than two hours. "It's hard to find the words," he said after his victory.

He succeeds in the rankings to the world No.1 Novak Djokovic, whom he had beaten in semifinals 3-6, 6-3, 6-3. Medvedev, after two defeats in the final in Washington (defeated by Nick Kyrgios) and Montreal (defeated by Rafael Nadal), climb Monday to fifth place in the world, the best ranking of his career.

"It's the first time I have cramps"

"It's all the hard work that is rewarded, I would not have liked to lose three consecutive finals," said Daniil Medvedev. "I started having cramps at 5-3, this is the first time I have cramps at three weeks, but he has failed to fire four of my services, it was amazing."

In addition to Djokovic, to reach the final, Medvedev successively beat the British Kyle Edmund (6-2, 7-5), the French Benoît Paire (7-6, 6-1), the German Jan-Lennard Struff (6- 2, 6-1) and compatriot Andrey Rublev (6-2, 6-3). The current N.8 World is the fifth Russian to win a Masters 1000 after Marat Safin, Nikolay Davydenko, Andrei Chesnokov and Karen Kachanov.
