The Dutch hockey players also did not win the second group match at the European Championships in Antwerp on Monday. The team of national coach Alyson Annan got stuck in a 1-1 draw against Spain.
In the first quarter Caia van Maasakker gave a lead from a penalty corner, but the Spanish team came alongside in the first fifteen minutes. Orange was stronger and more dangerous, but did not score anymore.
The hockey players had already started the World Cup on Saturday with a 1-1 draw against host country Belgium. Spain was too strong for Russia in the first group match with 1-0. Belgium and Russia meet later on Monday.
If our southern neighbors win those matches and draw against Spain in the last pool match, the Orange team has to deal with Russia to also score five points. In that case, the target balance is decisive.
The Netherlands has been European champion nine times and is once again the top favorite for the title. An Olympic ticket is ready for the winner of the European Championship.
