Dafne Schippers finished fourth in the 200 meters at the Diamond League in Birmingham on Sunday. The victory went to Shaunae Miller-Uibo of the Bahamas.

Schippers came to a time of 22.81 seconds in England. She was almost four tenths slower than her best performance of the season in the 200 meters (22.45 in Monaco in July).

Miller-Uibo rushed to 22.24. The 400-meter Olympic champion beat the British Dina Asher-Smith (22.36) and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce from Jamaica (22.50).

Schippers booked one victory in the 200 meters in the Diamond League this year. In June she was the fastest in Oslo. The 27-year-old from Utrecht is preparing for the World Cup in Qatar (September 28-October 6). Schippers became world champion in the 200 meters in 2015 and 2017.

Fisherman not hurdle to 100 meter final

Nadine Visser did not qualify for the final of the 100 meter hurdles on Sunday in Birmingham. The holder of the Dutch record (12.71) finished fifth in her series in 12.97 and was one hundredth of a second short for a place in the final battle.

Nafissatou Thiam provided the most striking performance at the Alexander Stadium. The Olympic, world and European champion at the heptathlon won the long jump with a distance of 6.86 meters, good for an improvement of the Belgian record with 19 centimeters and placement for the World Cup.

Thiam also has a ticket for the world championships for the heptathlon and high jump.
