Detained in July 2018 by Daniel Cormier, Stipe Miocic took revenge Saturday, August 17, 2019 against his American compatriot at the UFC 241. Winner by technical knockout in the fourth round, the heavyweight becomes world champion again. There are only four in the history of MMA to have achieved this feat in this category.

The main fight of UFC 241, held at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California on Saturday, August 17, has kept all its promises. The face-off between world heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier and former king Stipe Miocic was well worth a look. As much as their first duel, there is a little over a year ...

On July 7, 2018, Miocic fell from his throne. Six months after defeating Cameroonian Francis Ngannou - a win that made him the first world champion to defend his title three times - the Croatian-born American was knocked out in the first round against Daniel Cormier in Las Vegas ( Nevada). Thirteen months later, the revenge took place, not far from there, in neighboring California.

After three difficult rounds, Miocic surprises Cormier

Older but more offensive, Cormier, 40, has gone straight to Miocic, 36, from the first time. Heavy and repeated strikes, determination, the world champion did honor to his title and dictated the pace. The challenger, he has suffered a lot and cashed despite its larger size (1m95 and 108 kilos, against 1m80 and 106 kilos for Cormier) Trained on the ground, Stipe Miocic has repeatedly wobbled, or at least seemed close to breaking. Maybe that was his tactic. In any case, his plan paid off.

In the fourth round, when "DC" showed signs of fatigue, Stipe Miocic, who appeared to have emptied himself in his chair before the start of the round, took matters into his own hands. His fist attacks hit home much more often, and when Cormier stepped back after being rung, Miocic finished the job. His chaining against the cornered and collapsed champion against the grid prompted the referee to put an end to the fight; it's a victory by technical knockout.

It was perhaps the last fight of the career of Daniel Cormier (18 wins, 4 losses). Stipe Miocic (23 wins, 1 loss), he can smile. Not only did he take revenge against his compatriot. But in addition, he regained his world heavyweight title, which he lost last summer. In the history of the UFC, only Randy Couture, Tim Sylvia and Cain Velasquez achieved this performance before that. This places Stipe Miocic again in the history of MMA.
