Luuk de Jong made his debut on Sunday with a victory as a player from Seville. The club from southern Spain started the competition with a 0-2 win at Espanyol.

De Jong, who came over from PSV, was in the forefront throughout the game, but did not score. Just before half time Sergio Reguilón made 0-1 and in the second half Nolito determined the final score.

De Jong was involved in the first goal in stadium Estadi Cornellà-El Prat. With a scrimmage up close, he was unable to work the ball over the line, after which teammate Reguilón did succeed.

At the start of July, De Jong made the move from PSV to Seville for around 15 million euros, where he started his third foreign adventure. Earlier, the striker had little success with Borussia Mönchengladbach and Newcastle United.

The next game of Seville is Friday, when De Jong's team visits Granada. Another week later a home game against Celta de Vigo follows.

Real Madrid, Real Mallorca, Athletic Bilbao, Osasuna and Deportivo Alavés also started earlier with a victory in the La Liga season. There are two more duels on the program with Real Betis-Real Valladolid and Atlético Madrid-Getafe.
