The World Basketball Championships will start last August and preparations are underway for the participating teams. Last night two of the advance favorites, USA and Spain, met in a training match in Anaheim and it was the United States that drew the longest straw.

Took the lead in the first quarter

Many of the headlines surrounding the American national team have been about notable dropouts. Despite the drop, the Americans are signing a strong team led by young guards Donovan Mitchell and Kemba Walker, who this summer made a notable move to the Boston Celtics.

Spain, which won the World Cup title at one time, 2006, is led by longtime NBA point guard Ricky Rubio and new NBA champion Marc Gasol.

After mentioning Marc Gasol sent in two free throws, the score was 10-10 after six minutes played but then the Americans took over. Milwaukee Bucks native Khris Middleton scored ten points in the first half, helping the United States to a 54-41 lead after two quarters played.

The United States won the final with 90-81 and the best score in the US was Donovan Mitchell with 13.
