LONDON (Reuters) - Liverpool goalkeeper Adrian may not play against Southampton in the Premier League on Saturday after suffering a bizarre injury during the European Super Cup crown victory over Chelsea, manager Jurgen Klopp said on Friday.

Adrian, who joined Liverpool in a free deal earlier this month, took over from goalkeeper Alison Baker, who suffered a calf injury in his first league match against Norwich City on Friday and will be out of action for eight weeks.

The Spanish goalkeeper became a champion just days after joining Liverpool by blocking Tami Abraham's last kick to beat Club Chelsea 5-4 on penalties on Wednesday.

Adrian's ankle swollen after a fan rushed into the pitch and slipped to the ground and hit the goalkeeper's foot.

"We were all celebrating (after the match). One of the fans rushed and some security men chased him, he slipped and his foot hit the Adrian's ankle," Klopp told a news conference. "His ankle was swollen yesterday but today is better. He will participate tomorrow. "

"He will not have a scan. We will wait for the swelling to end, which has already happened. You can imagine that after that we had to travel for four hours, which is not helpful for swelling."

With this setback, Liverpool will be without their two main guards, but Klopp said that goalkeepers Andrew Lonergan and Kevin Kilher were ready to take part if necessary.

"Adrian joined us one week before his first appearance. Lonergan has trained with us. Kehr is not completely ready, we'll see."

If Lonergan takes part in tomorrow's game, he will be the oldest English goalkeeper to play in the Premiership match of the 21st century.

The 35-year-old has played for 12 Premier League and Premier League teams, and the last team he played for six months was Rochdale, who are active in the second division.

After the injury of Brazilian goalkeeper Alison Baker, the "Reds" made a short-term offer to Longergan and took him with him on his preparatory trip to the United States.
