Álvaro Hodeg won the fifth stage in the BinckBank Tour on Friday. The Colombian from Deceuninck-Quick-Step was the strongest in the mass sprint.
The stage was colored by an escape of four riders. They drove 110 kilometers from the finish line, after previous flight attempts with Moreno Hofland, Roy Curvers and Boy van Poppel, among others, had no success.
The Dutchman Oscar Riesebeek, the Australian Robert Stannard, the German Jasha Sütterlin and Willie Smit didn't get too much room from the peloton and built up a lead of no more than two and a half minutes.
With 4 kilometers to go, the quartet was again seized. The final kilometer was marred by a crash in the middle of the peloton, after which Hodeg finished in the sprint.
