Former NFL star Colin Kaepernick was the first to kneel in 2016 during the US national anthem. He did so as a protest against injustice against blacks in the United States. US President Donald Trump was one of several upset by Kaepernick's protests. Trump has said, among other things, that all players who squat should be fired.

Kaepernick has been without NFL teams since 2016, but he is still hoping for a comeback.

“Five in the morning. Five days a week. For three years. Still ready, ”he wrote on Twitter last week.

Now the quarterback is supported by Gregg Popovich, coach of the NBA in the NBA who has won several titles with the San Antonio Spurs and now is the United States League captain.

- What he (Kaepernick) did was patriotic, he tells ESPN.

"Too many have not been met"

- Patriotism means different things to different people. Just because someone hugs a flag does not mean that they are patriots. Being a patriot means that you respect your country and understand that the best thing about our country is that we have the opportunity to fix things that have not benefited many people.

- All the promises that this country was formed are fantastic, but for many they have not been fulfilled. You can still be patriotic and understand that there is still a need to criticize and change and focus more on those who do not have as much as other people have. Being critical of such differences does not make you unpatriotic.

- To neglect that part of what we are capable of doing is ignorant of anyone who tries to make them seem unpatriotic. Like Kaepernick. What he did was very patriotic. He cared so much about the country that he solved things that were obvious, that everyone knows about, but that nobody does anything about.
