Sam Bennett also won the second leg of the BinckBank Tour on Tuesday. After a flat ride from Blankenberge to Ardooie, the Irishman was the strongest in the mass sprint.

28-year-old Bennett, who already won the first stage of the WorldTour race on Monday and thus won the leader's jersey, was the Belgian Jasper Philipsen (second) and Dylan Groenewegen (third) after 169 kilometers.

For Bennett it is his tenth daily win this season and the fortieth for his BORA-hansgrohe team. Earlier this year he won stages in Paris-Nice, the Tour of Turkey and the Critérium du Dauphiné, among others.

In the general classification, Bennett is of course still in the lead. The best Dutchman in the ranking is Groenewegen, who is eighth at sixteen seconds from Bennett. His teammate Mike Teunissen is one place lower.

The BinckBank Tour will be continued on Wednesday with a flat ride in Aalter. The stage race through the Netherlands and Belgium ends on Sunday with a hilly stage.

Dutchman Asselman in the leading group of six

After nearly 20 kilometers of racing a leading group of six men emerged, consisting of the Dutchman Jesper Asselman from Roompot-Charles, Thomas Sprengers, Baptiste Planckaert, Josef Cerny, Robert Stannard and Damien Gaudin.

The six took a lead of a few minutes, which was gradually brought back by the peloton. The refugees held it up to just under 5 kilometers from the finish, after which the mass sprint was waiting.

Groenewegen seemed to be in a good position, but the leader of Jumbo-Visma went too late for the sprint, got trapped and even stopped another rider. Bennett kept his lead and sprinted convincingly to his second victory in a row.
